It’s Okay Not To Be Okay!

Mental Health has been a topic people have been talking about in today’s
society. Our mental health can impact many of our relationships, friendships, and many experiences we may have in our life. Mental health should be talked about just as much as physical health. We tend to put a great investment of time on physical health but not much for mental health. For example, if someone were to break their leg, they will automatically call a doctor. When addressing mental health many people do not really talk about it, simply because of the stigmas that are attached to it.

We should break the stigmas about mental health and embrace an open
communication through our society. We need to help others know that it is okay to ask for help. Life can be challenging at times and we never know what might happen, but all we can do, is keep our head up and take it one step at a time. Sometimes we go through things in life that makes us feel like we have hit rock bottom but always remember to “just keep swimming” as dory said. Also ask for help if needed. Sometimes we might feel like dory and not know where we are going and how to get somewhere, but just keep your head up and “just keep swimming”.

It is okay not to be okay!

Remember that every difficult road you come across; it often leads to a
beautiful destination. If you ever feel like you are lost or need help, do not
hesitate to ask for help. There is no shame in asking for help. Do not be scared to ask for help! We are all in this together!

  1. This is so true! I think that many people fear the stigma that is still associated with mental health struggles, for fear of looking “weak” or “crazy”. Everyone’s feelings are valid, including those who feel sad, distressed, or in any way not okay. There are still misconceptions that exist about the validity of mental illness, with some people believing that poor mental health can be reversed by sheer force of will, even though that’s not the case. I like the point you made about how mental health is related to, and is equally as importantly as physical health, because I think this is something that more people need to understand. It’s so important to check on your loved ones and be there for them when they need it, as well as seek help for yourself when you need to. Do you have any ideas about how we, as individuals, can work on ending the stigma surrounding mental health? Thank you for this post!!

  2. I really enjoyed your post. Mental health is deeply important, and certainly as important as our physical health even though it is not something that is visible. I agree with you that as a society, we definitely need to consciously work towards reframing our understanding of the importance of mental health, and really implement and extend mental health resources to all individuals. There is so much stigma that continues to exist around mental health, which sadly forces so many people to struggle in silence, and feel even more isolated. After the pandemic and everything that has happened in 2020, I am feeling more hopeful that counseling, therapy, and a greater understanding of mental health will become more normalized.
