The body created on Facebook
It is becoming more common today that we hear about fake identities on social networks. Many people fake their identities on social networks because it has became a place people can escape the reality of life and exist as a different body other from their existing body born into. There is a show called Catfish in which people who have online relationship ask for help to find out if their dream partner is hiding something or if they really exist because in most cases these people have never met each other face to face. There was one episode which stood out to me. There was a guy by the name of Anthony who was in a relationship with a guy by the name of Framel who was a model. Anthony and Framel were in a relationship but never met in person. For some reason every time they planned to face time something came up and they had to reschedule; the only image they had of each other was from the pictures that were exchanged personally and the ones posted on Facebook. Anthony explained that he was in love with Framel because he was very attractive and they both went through a lot and could relate to each other. Anthony contacted Catfish to help him meet his future lover Framel. When Catfish representatives researched this guy Framel he actually exists however; he was not the one talking to Anthony. The guy who was in a relationship with Anthony had stole the model Framel’s identity and made a fake Facebook profile in which he used to communicate with others including his lover Anthony. The Catfish crew finally figure out who this person was and convinced the guy to meet with Anthony. Anthony finally met his lover who was also goes by name Framel but looked nothing like the person he fell in love with on Facebook. Anthony’s love story ended, he wanted nothing to do with Framel.
Framel explains that he wanted to tell Anthony the truth but he did not want to rein his chances because he was afraid that Anthony would not give him a chance because of his appearance, but the person Anthony fell in love with was real and that’s him and the connection was real. He goes on alluding to his past in hopes to explain why he uses this identity but that was it for Anthony. They both went their separate ways; Framel decided to exists as his body he was born into and soon found someone, Anthony decided to work on his judgment and self before he decided to engage in another relationship. Just as Framel create a body on Facebook so have many people because they themselves are not happy with their true existing bodies so they create one that they feel more comfortable existing as. Some people go to the full extent where they only exist as the Facebook body to the world; they interact with the world through that body and not the one they were born into. Most people who create these existing bodies on social networks are the ones suffering from low self esteem problems because of something that may have happen to them in their pass which has impacted there life dramatically. Until these people feel Comfortable with themselves social networks will always have created bodies.
